850 ECC independently functioning
hi just bought a 1994 850 T5 climate control has a mind of it's own; set both thermostat dials at 22 degrees, passenger (left side) blows cool, driver's side blows warm. Fan control switch not controlling fan speed, fan starts on high speed automatically: I can't turn it on or off via the switch. previous owner had fitted a wire to I think power to fan/blower wire which went through a switch then earthed to body; this allowed fan to turned on to demist windscreen, the switch would also when turned on whilst fan running by itself audibly increase the blower fan speed. I would just like some control and be able to hear the engine etc instead of being blasted on the hour and half drive to and from work.
It sounds like you have a couple problems going on there. My guess would be either a bad blower motor resistor or control head for the always on high issue and likely a bad blend door control motor or broken door for the lack of control over temperature left to right.
There are some good articles on the repair of the blend door controls on MatthewsVolvoSite. You might have to use a little imagination as I have no clue if your plenum under the dash would be the same as "ours" (left hand drive) or if they may have a different one for you right side drivers
