850 Radio Issues
 

Hey guys,

My girlfriend has an 850 wagon with a SC-811 radio in it. The radio has stopped working - it turns on and the display works, but no sound output. Fuses are fine so I'm thinking its the unit itself, or the amp that are bad.

Any thoughts on what might be wrong are much appreciated.

I just worked on my 850 radio.
Check the back plugs, the 10 pin plug is the one that leads to the speakers.
Theres two tabs to the side of the radio, push them in and they will pop out, just pull it out and check plugs.
The door and rear speakers are in the A 10 pin plug, the dash speakers are on the B plug
Even if you have and amp, its also connected at the back.

Extreme left is the amp , first plug is the 10 pin Speaker Plug "A", second plug is the B plug, then the port for CD changer, then antenna..

The problem with my radio was that I lent the car for an extended perio of time to friends and someone cut up the plug, plus the dash speakers were unplugged...
But alas.. Thats how you learn.

Similar thing happened to my OEM radio; i actually spent quite a bit of time trying to debug it. Finally gave up and got a junk yard replacement for $40.

and there's always aftermkt radios too..

According to my local volvo parts guy these OEM radios don't usually last too long; mine lasted 160K mls...

Check your Amp.. Might be fried?.

I'm thinking it might be the amp.... I'm gonna pull the radio from my car, SC-816, and put it in her's this weekend. If it doesn't work then it's probably the amp, if it does then I'll look at a new unit.

I was just going to suggest that. Just drop your's in there and unlock it. If your's work, problem solved. Just get a used one from a junked car.
