850 Starts then dies
 

I haven never been left stranded by my 1994 850 glt even at over 300,000 miles until last night. The car started fine, I started driving then it stalls during acceleration. I tried to start her and she runs for 2seconds, then dies out. Does anyone have any suggestions on what the problem may be?

have you tried to see how much pressure is in your fuel line? your fuel pump might be going you my also have water in your tank just a thought .

Check fuel pressure, most of the time the fuel pump relay is bad. Look in the DIT thread for info on that.

I have unfortunately left the car in a parking lot over night so I have not had a chance to actually hook the car up to a diagnostic computer yet :( but i will check the fuel pump relay and the fuses now that it is light out

Usually a bad fuel pump relay will work if you unplug it and plug it back in. It will often make the sodier joints connect again. It will usually work for a few days and act up again.

Also check your fuel pump fuse. When mt pump dies it gave the same symptoms and kept blowing the fuel pump fuse.

thanks for this, my 850 sonetimes hasnt started the past few days, so i got a paperclip and jumped the fuel pump relay and it starts up great. A new fuel pump relay is on its way

also, 850s have an injector relay that can go bad and give the same symptoms. It sits up front by the radiator. Maybe worth replacing that as well. Note that FPRs usually die because the fuel pump is on its way out. As they wear, they start drawing too much current which fries the relay. So a good next step is to test the pump's current draw (and replace it before it leaves you stranded...)
