850 turbo flutter and dies out

today while driving my car just made a huge boom and so i pulled over thinking it was just a turbo hose. while i was pulling off the road i also noticed that i could barely brake, the pedal was pushed and hard as i could and i barely could stop it. it revved rpms erratically then died. well then i check all the turbo vacuum hoses and there fine. when i start it you can hear the turbo flutter and then the engine dies out. what could be the issue!?!? im dumbfounded.

No evidance of oil anywhere? Any other fluids anywhere?

How can you hear the turbo flutter? What does that sound like?

Is the timing belt in tach?

Found the issue! My freeze plug popped out! So I guess the question is what do I do now? Just tap the old one in? Or new? What seal if any does it need?

If it was a coolant freeze plug that blew out it might of over heated badly.
It might have also blew the headgasket.

No wasnt the coolant plug it's was the plug on the side of the intake manifold that connects to the Pcv system!

So I just tapped it back in. Works fine back to 20 on the vacuum gauge. But slightly off topic I tried to do my oil pan again and now it's leaking more than ever. Any tips to make it a perfect seal every time? I used the Volvo sealer and used a razor to scrape box the block and pan and even used gasket remover to help clean it. I just don't know how it could have gone bad, :(((( 8 hours of wasted time

Oh man, I feel for you. Done this twice. I used whats called a cookie. Its a small abrasive disc that attaches to a die grinder, its made for removing gasket material. You dont want to grind to much, just clean the surface as to not cause any valleys in the matting surface.

Only use the Volvo sealant. If you continue to blow this seal you may have a clogged PCV system and/or low compression.

Yeah I think the seal blew because I let the Pcv system go so long. I just replaced that about 2 weeks ago. So I'm hoping now once the pans sealed that I won't have any more leaks:)))
