850GLT Removing Gear Shift Knob
 

I have an American 1995 manual 850GLT.

I have looked at the DIY instructions by Matt01 here, but I'm stumped as to how he actually got the gear shift knob itself off. Particularly because some of the wording between the pics is missing or makes no sense, like "bob's uncle" ?

I just don't want to crack the ball socket below!

I don't understand where the rag and 2nd wrench come into play. He writes "pry up on the knob". Which wasn't specific enough for my Pea sized brain.

I have the rubber boot off, and that's it. Any help appreciated, I'd hate to bring this into Volvo to "fix".

I'd appreciate any meaningful input. Thanks in advance.
