'93 850 Won't Start
Tech,
Well. I replaced the starter, but after sitting for a few months it won't start. It still seems to turn over slowly, but it is faster with the new starter. I am getting fuel pressure. When I disconnect the fuel line and turn on the key the pressure is very good. I am also getting spark however it does not seem very strong. What should I look for electrically, and also could I have an injector problem? There are no blown fuses and no fault codes. Joe |

Makse sure you are getting pulse signal at injectors when cranking over.
Make sure the Dist. cap, rotor and wires are good. |

Battery...?
|
RE: '93 850 Won't Start
I agree with code33 it probably is the battery, try jumping it and see if that makes a difference. Batteries tend to die after a few months when not in use.

RE: '93 850 Won't Start
Already had a new battery.
How do I check for pulse signal at the injectors? |
RE: '93 850 Won't Start
You will need to find a noid light. It is a LED that plugs into the injector plug.
You will have 12volts to the plug with the key on. The pluse is a ground pulse from the computer. |
RE: '93 850 Won't Start
can I test the injector pulse with a multimeter?
|
RE: '93 850 Won't Start
I think the Milti meter will be to slow.
|
RE: '93 850 Won't Start
Got a noid light. Put it on the first injector.
When I turn the key to start the car there is a bright flash then a dim blinking. When the key turns off there is another bright flash. Still no start. |
RE: '93 850 Won't Start
You have pulse then.
You are missing something. You have good spark an fuel pressure? |
RE: '93 850 Won't Start
Yes I have fuel pressure. I akso have a spark albeit a little weak.

Put a new coil cable on today, no luck. Please rate the possibilities.
Coil/Power Stage Cam Position Sensor Speed Sensor Cap and Rotor Plug Wires |
RE: '93 850 Won't Start
Look on the ignition wires they have a Date stamped on them. It is usually yellow or white.
If the wires are old then most likely the cap and rotor are as well. If it has been more than 5-10 years change them with a good set. If the Cam sensor was Bad then no spark at all. Same with the speed sensor. Power stage maybe. |
RE: '93 850 Won't Start
In yellow, the wires have 99 16 on them. In white, "Made in France"
I aasum that means the wires are 7 years old???? |
RE: '93 850 Won't Start
Cap and Rotor did the trick!! Started right up.
But, always problems. The Power Steering Pump sounds like it's falling apart. Lots of bearing clicks and clacks. I guess I need to buy another part!!. Unless it's the belt tensioner????? Thanks for all your help. |
RE: '93 850 Won't Start
Yes the wires are 7 years old.
Fill the power steering fluid. Listen to where the noise is coming from try to isolate it. If you canm remove the Drive belts. Alt/steering, ETC. run it and see if the noise is still there. |
RE: '93 850 Won't Start
I'm leaning towards a pulley. The noise continued this morning, but I decided to drive it anyway. After about 10 miles, I was idling and after a loud squealing sound the engine died. It started right up and the noise was gone. Could a pully have separated binding the belt??
I guess I will remove the belt next and try to see if any of the pulleys are tight or broken. |
RE: '93 850 Won't Start
ORIGINAL: tech Fill the power steering fluid. Listen to where the noise is coming from try to isolate it. It doesn't have to be Valvoline brand. It is what my local neighborhood dealership uses. |
RE: '93 850 Won't Start
It might be a bad bearing in an Item.
It could also be a timing belt idler or tensioner pulley. Try to find Asap. If it is in the timing belt area with the drive belt (Serpentine belt) off then get fixed ASAP. |
RE: '93 850 Won't Start
WEll the serpentine belt melted today when one of the pully's siezed up. I'll check which one tomorrow. However, there was no more noise, so the timing belt and associated pullys seem ok.
