ABS Pump Leak is my car terminal?
The brakes on my 95 850 wagon went all spongy and the Volvo mechanic says the cause is a leaking ABS pump which they'd fix for $1,675. Might there be other options? Any thoughts on what a nonVolvo mechanic might charge to fix this? And, I read somewhere that it might be possible to disconnect the ABS and just have regular brake function. Is this crazy talk?

RE: ABS Pump Leak is my car terminal?
I have seen the pre '96 systems, including the pump and the ABS controller, go for under $100.00 on eBay. If you change the pump you need to change the brake fluid and bleed the entire brake system. When I change fluid I use the ATE super blue brake fluid so that I know I have flushed the old stuff out when it comes out blue. They say itis racing brake fluid so it has to be better!

Get a pump from a vendor, e-bay, or a wrecking yard and replace it yourself for 1/3 the cost. I too use the ATE fluid. It is pretty good stuff
