First off, I know nothing about the AC system itself. Though I understand the whole compressing gas, blowing off the heat, and letting it expand bit about it. But as far as the compenents, diagnosis, and repair, I have no idea where to start. SO:

The 94 volvo AC is weak... doesn't really do the job anymore. I am assuming it needs a recharge. So, how is this done? So does the refrigerent just leak out over a long period of time or do I have a hole in the system? How to tell?

The best way to find out is to either charge it with Dye or have it charged with dye in the system.
This way when it gets weak again you can find the leak with a Blacklite.
