Aftermarket radio install

Greetings -

I have a 97 850. I heard that the speakers or something are amplified and would need to re-run or do something before installing an aftermarket radio. Does anyone know the deal on that? The audio guy I know said something about something being in the door speakers or elsewhere and would take time and $$ to figure out.....

Only a few cars are amplified.

If you have one it will be mounted behind the radio in the dash.

Hey Tech -

I bought this car and it did not have a radio. It was cut, just the wires and the antenna cable. I bought another radio that was a stock one for it and apparently the connectors fit the radio but the wires that were connected to them do not match up with what is coming out of the dash. I inquired in another post about wiring differences between the 850 and 960 because I think the radio came out of that. I was thinking of going aftermarket then the audio guy was telling me about this amplfied thing. If I have one.. what would it look like? Is it based on trim levels or something??

The wife has been driving the car with no radio for a long time.. her patience is running out. I would be interested in your feedback on my next step.. if you don't mind.

Thanks!

I would talk to Crutchfield (www.crutchfield.com). I've got a '94 850 Turbo Wagon with every option except for heated seats and the radio had no amplifier. I bought an aftermarket radio because I wanted a CD player and AUX input for my XM radio, which the factory unit didn't have. The install took about 35 minutes. Crutchfield will get you everything you need, including connectors for the new radio so you need not cut the factory ones, as well as a single DIN delete compartment. - AB

That would be my next feed back.

If you really want to tackle here is a site for the wiring diagram. Covers both the 960 and 850.
