Another Volvo hard start scenario
So I’ve been lurking in the shadows for a while trying to use the forum to help me figure out what’s going on with my car but I’m stumped. I just got my 96 850 turbo back on the road and now it’s having problems starting. It will crank no problem but takes a few trys to finally get it to turn over. Sometimes it can take a few minutes to start. Once it’s running, it runs like a champ. Turn it off and it takes forever to start again. This is a list of things if changed/ checked: no cel, no codes compression ok fuel pressure ok batt ok new coolant temp sensor cam position sensor crank sensor idle air control valve new fuel pump relay new fuel pump rebuilt injectors fuel pressure regulator fuel injector relay different ecm and I’m sure I’m forgetting to mention something... I have no idea where tho go from here. Any help would be greatly appreciated |
Cranking is the point at which the air flow would read the lowest. Vacuum leaks would make more of an error. That might be one possibility. it's a long way from the MAF to the throttle on a turbo. Lots of plumbing.

Make sure all the check valves from the tank forward are working.

so I heard that the earlier 850s had inline check valves but the later ones were built into the fuel pump. How many other check valves are there? |
You could pinch off the return line temporarily to see if it's the regulator or check valve (s), number I dont know
