Attempt control arm and ball joint install?
 

Is this a repair that I can do myself? Mechanic is saying $580 to replace to the two front control arms and ball joints on my 94 Volvo 850. I've got a Haynes manual and the internet and the parts aren't horribly expensive. If i can do it myself...I'd rather do that than part with more money to fix this volvo. Where is the best place to buy these parts and what do Need to get as far as extra bolts and whatnot?

They are pretty easy to do.

I have done a bunch but did mine in the driveway in less than 1 hour with a floor jack.
But had air tools.

Just as Tech said, they're easily fixed. You can get them fairly cheap from FCPGroton.com and do them yourself for $65 each if you want the nonVolvo brand.

If you mean non-Volvo = Scantech control arms, I haven´t heard the greatest reviews. What do you think Tech?

They are so so.
