Default Was black an interior option?

Im just curious, but on my 94 the seats are black leather. Was this a factory choice? It has the non-matching headliner that I know is right. The PO told me the interior was re done. Ive never seen another one with a black interior. Thanks for any info.

Beige is sexier in the 850s, majority of 850s I see are charcoal interior cars. I cant stand charcoal, it can't decide whether it wants to be black or tan and it looks worn out and insipid. In my opinion.

Its funny, to look at my seats in person you would swear they are black, yet in the pics they look much lighter and grey.

Maybe it's my camera.

Maybe the color is off due to the steering wheel being on the passenger side I keed, I keed!

No it's done that way deliberately, that way the passenger can drive.

I think the paint makes a difference. I also think the charcoal/black would look better if the headliner matched it

I hear you. I just never fancied charcoal in any car. It just looks worn out to me.

My 850 wagon was a 25th anniversary edition (25 years of Volvo selling in Australia)

It had a dark taupe interior with beige highlights......I hated it

Yeah the darker beige looks dirty.. I guess I'm just particular. I've seen a few 850s with those interiors, the leather is tough to the touch.

There's nothing sexy about beige. Nobody ever wrote a song about a beige car. Sorry.

Personally, I like the dark simply because it doesn't show dirt and stains as much. Regardless, I hate what Volvo did with the interiors. If you get the beige, you've got the black dash and assorted trim. If you get the dark interior, you get a combination of black and grey, and you're stuck with a third color on the headliner. It's the one area where they really screwed up, in my opinion. They all look like crap to me.

And it seems to have gotten worse in the V70. I just picked up a '98, and it's got the dark interior. No grey, which is nice, but not only is the headliner beige, all the plastic pieces on the pillars are also. Draw a line around the mid point of the interior and everything below it is dark, and everything above it is light. It's ridiculous.

For my money, the best option is the dark interior on the 850, with a custom dark headliner.

Sexy is objective. If I were you, I'd spend a weekend dismantling and spray painting my interior bits to the color of my liking.

I will agree that it is harder to keep tan clean. I laid underneath my car on a dirty side street one afternoon after a five foot steel wire got caught on my rear wheelwell and brake line. After undoing it, I cleaned my back and butt as best I could then got back in the car.

After reaching my destination, I got out, looked at the seat, then shook my head in anger. It was filthy.
