Blow off valve location

I have a 96 850 turbo, i wanna know where my blow off valve is. i wanna know what i can do to my car to make it faster without spending money?

RE: Blow off valve location

They don't have an actual blow out valve seperate the have a diaphram on the turbo.
You can crank the turbo up slighlty to get a little more out of it.

i want to put a new one in.. but how do i crank up my turbo boost?

RE: Blow off valve location

Adjust the waste gate rod and make it a little longer and it will open the turbo a little more.

do you have any kind of diagram of what to do??? like a picture...is a lift needed or i can do it from the top of the engine bay?

RE: Blow off valve location

From what I've seen you ca do it from the top of the engine bay. you can see the wastegate actuator just above the turbo but you have to remove the heat shield to get to the adjustment bolts. Be careful not to do too much or you will blow out something. Make sure your engine is ready for more boost!

Here is a picture of a turbo unhook the side that has a pin in it and unscrew the rod a little at a time.Careful not to go into overboost. If you happen to got into overboost you will know.It will have good pull then just drop off. Then just turn it back some.Yes you will have to remove the heat sheild as well.

how would i no if my engine can handle it?...it has about 108k on there now and i just got it about 5k ago...it has horrible gas mileage...but that cause i havent dealt with my check engine problem yet(o2 sensors i think) but other then that it seems okay....oh ya and on the turbo about how many turns do i go at first? a few or do i need to go alot like 1/4 inch or somehting?

tech 04-04-2005 09:57 PM

RE: Blow off valve location

You can turn one turn at a time. The engine will let you know if it can't handle it.But I have seen engine's with 300,000 miles running 15 Psi boost all the time.

RE: Blow off valve location

how much does a stock 850 glt boost? and is it different for the t5?

tech 04-06-2005 03:07 AM

RE: Blow off valve location

I think the boost is very close the T-5 has a diffrent computer program as well.
I think it is like 8-10 PSI.Depends on how it was set.

Lukeman 01-01-2008 06:57 PM

RE: Blow off valve location

so can you actually bump up the boost to 15 psi using this actuator method? or is there a limitation?

tech 01-01-2008 08:28 PM

RE: Blow off valve location

With a Manual Boost Controller you can crank it up some.

But in my opinion I wouldn't go over 12 for ever day driving.

RE: Blow off valve location

From my understanding on modifying boost, the computer will automatically turn it back down. I had talked to IPD quite in detail to find out about this very issue. Correct me if I am wrong, because I also would like to know if I can adjust the boost via this rod. thanks

RE: Blow off valve location

^MBC can bring you up to 14.9 and then it will hit fuel cut. So it will be good until around 15 psi.

RE: Blow off valve location

Do not adjust the wastegate.

If you want to raise boost use a MBC (Manual Boost Controller). Like Red said you can raise your boost to 15PSI and then your turbo will be out of its effeciency range. So keeping your boost around 12PSI would be better and personally I think you would like it more.

Or get an ECU upgrade to raise the boost, cost more but the better option in my mind.

RE: Blow off valve location

Where and who makes a boost controller for this car? I was told you could not install one. Man am I confused.

S70driver 01-02-2008 03:15 PM

RE: Blow off valve location

You can pick up a MBC (Manual Boost Controller) anywhere. Try EBAY. Try searching GOOGLE.

Dawes Device, might be under a new name now.

Or get an ECU upgrade, which I would recommed. I would also get a real boost gauge if you get either so you know exactly what your boosting.

That is what DAWES DEVICE is now.

This is what you want...

wow I wonder how you would actually install one of those on the car...Does anyone actually have one of those?
