Brake pedal position sensor?

1995 850 turbo sedan

The car has been acting funny lately so I put it on a diagnostic and it said there was a fault with the brake pedal position sensor and a O2 sensor. When driving, every few minutes it feels like the cruise control is engaging for a split second and the car pulls and kind of thuds. I'm a total novice, and I looked up the sensor and a new one is like $500. I've had Volvos long enough to know that I can probably find one used, and I also read that you can get them re-sautered to work? Does this sound like a brake pedal position sensor to you? Any information or advice you have is much appreciated. Oh, and is it dangerous to drive the car right now?

Are you tracs and ABS lights on? If so, then it is more then likely the pedal sensor.

As for the O2 sensor, I would check for vacuum leaks first before replacing them.

There is a thread somewhere on fixing the brake pedal sensor. I have done it and it worked. You need to be REALLY CAREFUL with the plastic housing but the repair itself is easy.

I just brought a used one for 50 bucks because I did not trust myself with the plastic housing.

I repaired mine about 8 months ago. There was a good thread showing you how to do it. Often the culprit is poor solder. The plastic casing provided the most difficulty. Some have had success opening it up without damage, I wasn't one of them. I cut it open and just used a plastic weld attachement for the soldering iron to seal it up again. Don't forget to silicone the top up to seal it. Took me about 15 mins to open it up and maybe 10 mins to repair and re-seal it. Still works great. Without it working properly, I think it just disables the ABS.
