A/C Compressor

All,

I plan on taking the A/C compressor out of my son's 95 850 Turbo sedan this weekend to re-shim the clutch. It has the usual symptoms...turn on A/C, and it will get cold right away, then after about 10 min it blows hot. Or, if it is blowing cold and you accelerate moderately, it blows warm air again (guess the compressor clutch is slipping)

I looked at Tech's post, but the pictures will not come up. Also, I would like instructions on removing the compressor itself if anyone has them.

So, in short, can someone post how to discharge the system, pull the compressor, and shim it.

I know I am asking a lot, but......

Thanks,

Glenn

RE: A/C Compressor

Hi Glenn,

I attached the pics from Tech's post. See if you can download them.

As for discharging the system, it is technically illegal just to release it into the atmosphere. It is best to have it evacuated at a shop, but in case for some reason if you must do it yourself, wear eye protection, move your face away from the low side charge port and press on the valve core with a long pointy tool. But again I wouldn't recommend this for legality issue & possible danger (frost bite).

I hope you can see the photos.

P.S: I may be hospitalised for about 10 days, I have a problem in my tail pipe (hemo....[8D])

JPN,

Thanks, the pictures came through just fine. Now all I need is someone to give me any tips they have to remove the compressor. Hope your surgery goes well and you are back here soon.

Thanks again,

Glenn

RE: A/C Compressor

Hi Glenn,

I distantly remember that there is only one way to remove the compressor out of the engine compartment; it either has to be lifted out or dropped down. The space, as you know, is extremely tight and if it has to be lifted, the power steering pump would definitely have to move out of the way, but check with a generic manual, or wait till someone jumps in with better ideas.

P.S: My hemmy surgery won't happen until June or July, there's a long waiting list. I guess millions of people are suffering hemmy issue:(.
