A/C problem

My A/C doesn't work since last summer. I presume there's a freon leak because:
-The air is not cold
-It starts pumping every minutes (so I turned off the switch)
-I went to the garage and they've filled it up with a can of a certain product that is supposed to stop leaks. The cold air last about a week.

Where should I be looking first?

Thanks!

RE: A/C problem

The evaperatore is the first place to look they are known to leak.Do you know if they happened to put dye in the system? If not you should try to get some in there so it is easier to find. The bad part is that it will cost about $1000.00 to 1200.00 to get it fixed. The entire dash has to come out of the car. Then the heater box needs to come out.It is a pretty big job. Most places charge 10.5 to 11.0 hours to make the repairs.

Also where do you live?

I don't know if they put dye. Is is something that I can consider doing by myself? Do you have any documentation? I live in Montreal, Canada. Any other thing that I should look for?

You might be able to buy the dye at an Auto Parts store and install it your self. Then you look the system over with a black light and it will light up green. The evaperator is the first thing to leak on those cars. The dye just helps you find the leak fast.I swear by the dye I always use it and it makes the job 10 times easier.

The reason I asked where you lived is beacuse if you were close to me here in FLA. I could have helped you replace it.

I will probably check that when the temperature will warmed up. These days I don't really need my a/c.

Thanks!
