Climate Control Panel (ECC) question...

So I'm new to Volvos but the other day I noticed that the recycle and a/c buttons flash seventeen times before turning off.

Any ideas what this could mean?

Thanks in advance!

anyone?

put some freon in (if the ac does not blow cold).

"If it blows cold and you have flashing still, don't worry it's common on these cars." The dealer gave me that answer when I just bought my T5 so I went and got freon and the flashes occur little to no more.

it means there is a code thrown for the ECC system, what year is your 850?

Thanks I think that may be the problem since my AC doesnt blow cold at all..

My 850 is a 96

My car started this today. It blinked 17 times. I will check the pressure in the freon system when I find my gauge. Everything seems to work as of now. Anyone has up-to-date experience with this?

Is it an 850, what year and is it electronic climate control or manual? Remember, we have no idea what you have so please give information on what you have along with what your problem is.

If the lights flash when the car is first started it's because the system has found a fault. It doesn't necessarily mean you need to add freon. If you have a 93-95 you should have a diagnostic panel under the hood over by the fill neck for the windshield washer bottle. The first thing to do is read the codes since this will tell you what the system is seeing as a problem.

I don't know if the system knows to set a code for low freon but if you look at the list of codes it could be anything from the temperature sensors with the little fan that is built into the grab handle above the driver or passenger seats or one of the blend doors not responding properly to its signal or one of the temperature sensors in the ducting that has failed. I have a couple of these codes.
Not sure if this is a complete list.

I'll pull codes tomorrow. Not sure what port to jump but I'll check the manual.

I started the car about 20 times today, didn't do it once.

Thanks for the Mathews site. Now I have 3 codes identified that I have NO IDEA what they mean?? Is their a place that explains what the codes mean?

Kiss4aFrog 12-29-2012 05:05 PM

Yes, there are plenty of them. You can use any search engine (Bing, Yahoo, Google ...) to get a description. Just type in the trouble code. Once you've done that and it says .... , then you use some of that language or the parts name to search some more. You might also be able to search this forum (volvoforums), Volvospeed, volvoforum, turbobricks ... for a thread on any of the trouble codes.

It's likely you don't have a brand new code no one has ever had before so there should be threads that apply.

You could also post them and have someone here point you in the right direction. I like to give people the tools to find out and I think most of the folks here respect someone who's at least made an effort to find information.
