Climate control trouble codes

Hi,

I pulled the following fault codes from my Climate Control Unit by using the Circuit provided in one of the other threads (1996 Volvo 850 GLT):

2-3-5 .............. Recirculation Damper Motor Position Sensor Circuit Open Or Short To Power

3-2-4 .............. Floor/Defrost Damper Motor Active Too Long

4-1-1 ......... Pass. Compartment Fan Overcurrent Or Seized Fan

4-1-4 ............ Driver’s Side Temp. Sensor Intake Fan Seized

4-1-7 ............... Pass. Side Temp. Sensor Intake Fan Seized

Can someone explain each of the above in detail and tell me which parts I need to replace in order to fix each of the above faults?

Thanks in advance for your help.

RE: Climate control trouble codes

Good morning,

I just went through Volvo manual and testing each component is very involving and requires Volvo test equipment. However, the ACC on 850 is notorious for reporting codes for negligible reasons. If your ACC is operating normally (except while the 2 LED's are flashing, but they should stop flashing after several seconds), I would leave it. For '96, you will need special scanner or Volvo scanner to erase codes (unless you can manually do this by using a home-made tester, but I haven't found a procedure anywhere yet).

After reading some procedures, however, it seems like a seized fan could trigger those codes. Check to see if the blower fan is working correctly. If not, there may be a blockage around the blower fan or if the fan is OK, there may be a fault in the power stage surge protector. I'll attach pics on the power stage & damper motor locations, but I'll have to delete them within the next 7 days, so make sure to save them in your PC.

Cool! I'll check out the damper motors now that I know where they're located. Thanks a bunch for your help JPN.

When was the last time you replaced the pollen filter under the cowling at the back of the engine compartment? And if you don't have one, might be worth pulling the cowling off and having a look inside to make sure you haven't had a bunch of leaves or something accumulate inside... just a thought.
