Climate Control unit
OK guys. Need some help. My fan stopped working. When I start the car, the 2 lights under Recirc and AC blink on and off a few times, then stay lit. When I slide the fan speed lever over, they blink again and I get no forced air. I replaced the whole unit, hoping it was that, but NO. Any ideas???

RE: Climate Control unit
Could be a fuse or relay which is right next to the blower motor, or the blower motor itself is bad. The blower motor and relay are behind the glove box. My son just changed his and he said it was pretty easy. The unit was around $200 from the dealer, but can be found cheaper on the internet.

Jim - I took the glovebox out yesterday, but it doesn't look too simple pulling the blower motor.
There are wire harness and some other big curved metal "tube" with wires in front of it. Also, not too sure where the relay is. Might be a little more involved job, expecially when it's cold out. |
RE: Climate Control unit
It is simple.
You will need to remove the knee bolster on that side in addtion to the glove box. |
RE: Climate Control unit
when i took out the glove box yesterday, I also pulled off the plastic trim (knee bolster) under it, but there is a large black metal piece above that.

RE: Climate Control unit
3 or 4 nuts and that will come off

RE: Climate Control unit
I've never done it myself, so I'm not much help. Just heard it's pretty easy. My son did it and said I wouldn't have any problem doing it myself.

RE: Climate Control unit
OK Thanks. I just got a relay, so hopefully that will do it. If not, blower motor is next. But it never really made
any noise like they do before they crap out. |
RE: Climate Control unit
Hello fast850r,
Greetings from Yokohama. As info2x has noted, the "metal tube" does come out, after removing 3 nuts. You will need an extension when reaching those nuts. Also, you'll have to wiggle the tube a bit. When reinstalling it, the SRS warning label states that the nuts have to be torqued. After the tube is out, reaching the blower motor is relatively easy. Most connectors fall in their place without labeling, though it is still better to label them. If you have a digital camera, take a photo or two. Good luck, JPN |
