CNG / Natural Gas 850

Hi, new to the forum, looks like some pretty knowledgeable folks here, want to thank all in advance for the viewing and advice.

I am involved in natural gas, and domestically upfit new EPA certified Chevrolet and ford trucks.

We are looking at some international markets and stumbled upon some info on a US version of the 850 that had a CNG system engineered and provided form Volvo see the following;

http://www.volvoclub.org.uk/press/pdf/presskits/850BiFuelPressKit.pdf

http://www.greencar.com/articles/behind-wheel-volvos-bi-fuel-cnggasoline-850.php

I have some potential international market opportunities for these vehicles and was wondering if anyone out here has some experience or info on the aforementioned CNG system offered by Volvo.

There are lots of " aftermarket" systems, that can be purchased, but a system engineered by OEM, designed to operate without issue offered on a warrantied vehicle is going have less derivability issues and be a more complete system.

I don't mean to sound negative, but you sound like you are soliciting here. Maybe I am wrong. You have a name, business address?

The obvious solicitation aside, a BiFuel 850 would have been released with the fuel crisis of the early 80's still fresh in everyone's mind. Once cheap gasoline returns, any potential market penetration for CNG becomes harder.

Personally, I don't see a large market wishing to retrofit an 850 to use CNG. There are relatively few 850s still on the road for starters. We are all looking to buy used 850s as cheap as we can. The expense then to convert would be a major limitatation and the issue of convenient refill stations is no more a reality in 2011 than it was in 1996.

Hats off to Volvo however for their progressive stance.

These things pop up everytime gas goes to $ 4/gallon here in the US.

cng oso Mar 12, 2011 04:02 PM

no, Henery not Soliciting

I am looking for anyone involved or having knowledge of the CNG OEM system that the 850's had. Want to know who engineered it, and the contact info.

Henery, belive me im not trying to sell you a CNG upfit or to the the Americans POV (privately operated veh) public

Not sure where you got that, as you mentioned, I did not share my company info, as my intentiions are educational, and the US POV market is not my nitch.

As far as the coment these pop up every time fuel goes to 4$ a gal, I suggest you look at what the rest of the world is doing. Its not selling its citizens a bill of goods about electric vehicles. Its going to nat gas because we are out of cheap oil. If you want some world wide education check out www.ngvglobal.com

Most of the US is in the dark, the rest of the world cant effort to subsidise the price of its fuel so its driving public can bumb around in 6.0L vehicles when a 2.0L can put out 300HP

I would presume that Volvo retained ownership of these cars and kept them out of private hands as GM did with their electric cars.
