Code 122
I'm looking at purchasing a 94 850 turbo... but it has an engine light on for a code 122.... now the owner said something about it being in b2???? and that it had to do w/the cruise control... can anybody elaborate on this.. I'm a volvo NEWB.
On the '94 850 there are two diagnostic boxes in the engine compartment - A & B.Socket B2 is used to check for fault codes in the cruise system.
Code 1-2-2 is Speed below minimum/no signal.
When checking for fault codes on B2 it should be done after a road test which must exceed 22mph otherwise code 1-2-2 will always be stored. The test must be done before the engine is switched off otherwise 1-2-2 will be stored and the road test will have to be repeated.
Ask the owner if he did the diagnostic test correctly. 1-2-2 is really nothing to worry about.

The code 1-2-2 is erased as soon as the ignition is turned off. Have the owner, or yourself, check for fuel system codes using A2 and ignition system codes using A6. Something other than the cruise control is setting the CEL.
Cruise control problem is probably caused by a vacuum leak. There is a hose under the battery that has a tendency to get broke. I would leave the CEL light on and tell him the cruise control unit is shot and is expensive to fix. Then low ball him on the price of the car. I love to pull crap like that when buying a car.
