crankshaft position sensor location?
 

hey guys, i've searched and read that the crankshaft position sensor is located on the tranny close to the engine block. I've looked and see three sensors but they don't look like the crank sensor I picked up from the dealer.

Do I have to take off the intake tubing to the turbo to get to this sensor? When I get home i'll keep looking but I hear it's only five minutes to change.

The problem is my 97 850 t5 has inconsistent starting issues and the timing belt has never been changed. odo says 107,000+ but stopped workinh before i bought the car. The camshaft position sensor is next, I know where that is, and the timing belt kit is afterwards.

The sensor is sticking straight up from the transmission where the bell housing connects to the block. Straight up with a loom coming out of it. Cant miss it. I can post a picture if you need it.

Here is a picture of the crank position sensor (or RPM sensor).

One 10mm bolt and it comes out. For reference, the black hose is the bottom radiator hose and the white hose is where you should have a black one that leads to your heater core (that's just a bypass I temporaily put on when I found out my daughter's heater core was leaking inside the car.) Hope this helps.

is it located below the distributor cap, do i have to take off the intake tubing to the turbo? I thought it was one of the three sensors atop the tranny close to the firewall. thanks for the pic!

Our 850 is NA (non-turbo), but that sensor can be found on the back end of the engine (where the cap/rotor are) down lower where the bell housing attaches, right next to the front-most heater core hose coming from the block, right behind cylinder #5. But being a turbo, I don't know what additional stuff you might have to take off.

Well yesterday I changed the crank sensor which took about an hour b/c I had to pull off the tcv(three hoses, two bolts) from the airbox and swivel around to find the 10mm bolt to take off the crank sensor, it wasn't as easy as you guys made it seem but thanks for the guidance!

while I was down the I see the cam sensor connection to the harness is corroded and literally rotted away! To my relief I cleaned out the excess broken plastic and connected the three teeth to the harness plug. That is the culprit to my starting issues.

I found the CPS and will replace that tomorrow; hopefully, that will solve the stalling issue, if not, on to the Cam Sensor. I don't know the location of the Cam Sensor, but will return to the page for further help if needed. Thanks for the great advise.
