Crumbling shift knob!!!!
 

The rubber coating on the shift knob of the wagon is either crumbling off or falling off in chunks!! How do you replace the knob? Is their a set screw or does it screw off? I can easily get one at a boneyard but I need to know how it comes off.:confused::eek::mad:

Hah, sorry, all I could think of when I saw this was the Wicked Witch of the West from the Wizard of OZ saying...'I'm Melting!'

I know on the S60 you push down and turn. I think on the V70/850 you pull up on it. I would try the push method first.

Was there any resolution to this? I just bought an 850 and the gear shift knob is rather chewed up.

Also, is there a special procedure for reattaching the cable to the shift knob so that the shifter works properly?

Just pull up on the knob real hard and it will come off. When I put them back on I usually give them a stern thump. Be careful not to damage the shifter button. They crack easy.
