Default Did the headliner in Suede

The infamous Volvo tan headliner was falling down due some intense Florida heat. I picked up some Suede and went to town. I will save you the details as it is already over documented. I will say it pulls out the trunk no problem.

Thanks!

Thinking of going with Charcoal handles and sunroof trim. I also still need to cover the sun visors in suede, I painted them but it looks trashy.

Good Job...
What post did you use for instruction?
How much was the final cost...
What materials did you use Clean up and adhesive wise?

I have to do mine but have been worried about the outcome.

I read over this write up, http://www.matthewsvolvosite.com/for...hp?f=1&t=26848. It documents the removal and install steps well.

After removing the headliner I used a push broom to wipe off any foam that was left. For material I used Suede Cloth, traditional Suede leather is too heavy to use on the headliner board. I attached it directly to the headliner using Loctite headliner adhesive #37312. I did not install any foam behind the suede as its not needed.

I painted the trim with Black plastic paint but I dont like how it came out so Im going to try Charcoal Grey Trim Dye made by VHT, http://www.amazon.com/VHT-SP954-Viny.../dp/B000CPCRQI.

Im going to cover the visors in suede toady so I should be able to get some pictures of those up soon.

Bad-A**...
I ve done my headliner 3 times and it keeps falling from the heat here in miami.

Ive always used the 3m but im going to pull it out when I get some extra cash and do it again.

Thru the trunk looks so much easier than folding it to get it out the door... LOL

Take out the rear seat bottom, fold down the rear seat, move the front seats all the way forward and then all the way down (toward the rear). Then you will have more room then you expected.

Visors did not turn out how I wanted so I need to mess around with them some more.

I used spry paint for plastic. Not recommended! I should have and will be using a dye.

I have a set of light grey handles and map light from an s70 that I will be swapping in once I dye them charcoal. I also found a set of 960 sun visors in black that I will be using as well.

Black trim that fits an 850 was never available. Only tan and light grey.

oh nice, the handles look pretty good, just a little too dark imo, the visor didnt look backeither, but i imagine itd be tougher to wrap it neatly around the edges

The suede looks lighter in the pictures because of the flash. Its actually black suede and in person is a lot darker. The handles are still too dark and Im thinking the charcoal dye will look better.

You are correct about the visors. Its a pain to wrap around the edges. I used glue and folded the edge under to give it a smooth transition but its still too obvious for my taste. If the black visors dont do the trick I will have them wrapped when I get the steering wheel and shift **** redone by a local shop. They are backed up for a few months so I have time to kill and just experimenting with what looks best. The local recycle yard had a couple 850's so I pulled several handles and trim items to play with.

Plan to pick up some material for the door panels tomorrow.

Thank you!

I never thought about doing the steering wheel in suede. I will have to look into that.

Cheers
