Dimmer Switch for Dash Lights

Hello: I have a 1995 850. The dimmer switch is bad and therefore the dash lights turn on and fade out after 20 seconds. I use this as an airport car only and I do not want to spend the $150 for a new switch at ipd. Can I simply connect the pins with the old switch thereby "jumping" and bypassing the dimmer? Do you see any problems? Thanks!!!!!!

Should be fine....The lights will just be full bright all the time

OMG!!! I did not know that iPd sold those switches. That is in-sane!!! I'd like to have one but I'm not about to spend $160 on one.

If you jump it the lights will be full on.
If I had more time I'd ohm my switch and give you some specs. I'm sure RadioShack would have a pot that would work. It would be a bit trickier to find a slider that would fit.

Thanks! Also I found this:

Unplug the dimmer connector. There are five wires at the following pin locations:
1. BRN/ORG: Supply voltage with ignition at ACC or RUN.
2. BLK: Ground. (for dimmer - lights are grounded separately)
3. WHT: Supply voltage with headlight switch OFF.
4. PNK: Output voltage to lights.
5. WHT/BLK: Ground with headlight switch OFF.

Using your multimeter, check for correct electrical functions at the connector pins.

Jumper pins 1-4 (BWN/ORG to PNK). If the dash lights are now on with the ignition to ACC or RUN, it's definitely the dimmer. It can be left this way until you get a replacement dimmer.

Is your spare working?

Thank you so much for the killer offer on the dimmer switch. Unfortunately, I already did the jumper and it works; otherwise I would have taken your great offer. I sincerely appreciate everyone's help with this issue.

I would consider buying seat covers [tan] for the front seats if you have the ipd custom fit design.

You guys are great!

Are any of the center console lights working?

colt1911 Sep 21, 2012 06:32 AM

Nope, I had the dash all apart, but the 2 holes they indicate on my 2012A vida are not on tge board??????? I think me needs a real pic of one installed.

How to remove dimmer switch?

I popped out the rear fog warning light switch right under it with no problem but cant seem to get the upper part out. It looks like it's a fairly deep switch. I don't want to damage it or something else. Does it just pull out through the front of the opening?

Thanks

MikeL

Never mind..found a picture on the IPD website so answered my own question. Took an old fashioned brake tool and got the sharp bend behind the assembly. A good tug and it popped out. Jumpered it for now till I can find a good one in the local yard.

It's likely the dimmer switch. I have one if you need it. PM me.
