Engine Family #'s

Hey guys: Just a quick one I am going to bite the bullet and rebuild the R. Basically new rack & pinion new axles, new O2 sensors and new OBX exhaust and catalytic converter, and the expensive turbo rebuild. That brings me to this question there are two cats listed for the 850 turbo but it differs by engine family numbers ? Where do I find this info ?? I have to order the cat by tommrow.

Two questions..

Why would the turbo rebuild be expensive? you can do it your self for under $150-$200..

If your getting the obx exhaust go NOT buy an vehicle specific cat, you going to want to go with a 2.5" high flow cat that you can get welded into the obx mid pipe.

sort of like this:
MagnaFlow 59956 - MagnaFlow Universal Spun Catalytic Converters - Overview - SummitRacing.com

also if your going to do both O2's, my advise is to only get the front, spend the money you would have spent on the rear o2 on a tune from ARD and remove the read o2. $175 for the tune and you never have to worry about the rear o2 again.. PS you can use the block off cap from the stock exhaust to close off the bung in the obx mid pipe.

Where did you order a cat from where it needed the engine family ??
Any chance you're in California ??
You should be able to get the engine info out of the VIN or off the timing belt cover.

Whoa, hold on here. From one Californian to another...you cannot buy any cat, throw it on your car and expect to pass California smog. Speaking from experience, it must be an OEM or direct replacement (not my words, the Bars words). You may get away with it if they dont check but if they do its off to the Bar where they will tell you it is not approved. They said you can do whatever you want after the rear 02.

Here is what I did. I took the angled housing downpipe and welded it onto an OEM cat. Threw it on the car, had the Bar inspect it, I passed then swapped it back out. (Notice the nice new Cat on my downpipe...didnt pass.)
