EVAP engine code question
I've got a '96 855 turbo and a few weeks ago the check engine lite comes on. A friend of mine has a OBDII scanner, read the code as evap, cleared it and it stayed off for a good week of commuting. I thought that was that, but it came back on again today. The only thing i can think of is that i just filled it up with gas yesterday, as i know sometimes it can have something to do with the gas cap not being properly set. Perhaps a new gas cap would do the trick, but i was wondering what other common issues might trigger that code. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks!

RE: EVAP engine code question
That problem seems to have been caused by either:
- Yes the gas cap. - Overfilling the tank (when the filling nozzle clicks once, stop fueling further, except whenit clicks 2 seconds after you start fueling[8D]). If not for those 2, see attached. RE: EVAP engine code question
Awesome...thanks for the response. I'll turn the code off again and make sure not to overfill it. Dont think i have the past two times...usually just pull it out the first time it clicks...but will see. I hope that's all it is.

RE: EVAP engine code question
JMD,
I've got the same code on my '96, but I'm also getting 'long tern rich mixture.' Plese let us know if you find a solution. My EVAP code read leak somewhere in system. I can't find any abnormality, but I have yet to remove the wheel well and look around the filler neck, which is where I think my problem is. TECH has suggested a bad EVAP valve, but I can't seem to be able to order the parts from anyone, since they never sell them. It is very frustrating. I have also noticed what looks like fuel spillage out of the tank, so maybe my cap is bad. I was going to order one with the new EVAP valve, but no one seems to think that a bad cap could cause a 'Long Term Rich" code. Keep us posted please! |
RE: EVAP engine code question
Jnduke,
I wonder if the following vendors would have one? http://www.fcpgroton.com/category-ex...37/by_year/46/ (FCP Groton's older version web page was so much better & easier to use but now they screwed it up and made it into the universal data-base format which bothers me because everyone else uses it[8D]). http://www.eeuroparts.com/productdet...&code=9014 If I got wrong parts, then search around on those 2 vendors. RE: EVAP engine code question
JPN- that sure looks like it-I'll double check the part number. I had called them and IPD and no one could help me.
Thanks. I've got to start using that website. |
