Exhaust repair success!

Volvo 850- I almost gave up on this repair. Exhaust broke off right behind the CAT and I'm financially not able (and don't want) to drop a bunch of coin on all new exhaust components. I tried splices with hose clamps everywhere, leaky leaky noisy. But finally, (I think, I'm a week good now) I think I've got it licked.

Stove pipe cement. Yeah. $5. rated at 2700 degrees. I aligned the pipe and CAT outlet, cleaned it up kinda, buttered it up thick with the cement, then wrapped it with metal flashing secured with 3 hose clamps. THEN I buttered the metal flashing with a nice thick batch of more Stove pipe cement. Used the whole stinkin can. Tapered it way down the pipe and way up onto the converter. Completely covered the hose clamps with the cement.

Sets in 24 hours then it's heat activated so I heated it up with a heat gun and ran the engine for about 10 minutes, drove to work 3 days. It's ROCK hard. I also used some heavy wire as a cradle to support the converter, figuring the weight of the converter would stress that repaired joint.

So I think it IS possible to patch an exhaust pipe, and I can handle 5 bucks. Dave

Lol, buy a ton of it, re-package it and sell it for $15 per tube. Retire in 3 years.

I do pity the next poor person who needs to work on your exhaust system. Lol.

LOL, you got that right.

You'll need a jackhammer and an oxy torch to remove it LOL

Repair

It was that or throw out the converter. Next person can unbolt the converter at the front, cut the straight section of pipe and throw it out if they really want to. Makes no difference to me.
