Default Fixed hose not its over heating

About 2 weeks ago I did a coolant system flush on my 96 850R with no problems. The other day while I was stuck in traffic I noticed a slight puff of steam when I put my foot on the gas. After getting out of the traffic I popped the hood and noticed that my turbo coolant line (the short hose section)was cracked and letting coolant out.I did have enough coolant in the system to get me home. Once she cooled down I opened the cap on the resevor and found it almost empty but there was no sign of coolant on the ground. I fixed the cracked hose refiled the system started the car brought it up to temp and no problems and no leaks. Yesterday while driving for about 90 mins the temp gauge shot up almost to the red line and came back down again. I pulled over immedatly and open the hood and could see that the coolant tank was at the max line. Got the car home let it cool down opened the coolant tank and no coolant in the tank and no coolant on the ground. So once again refilled slowly his time ( as I tought I might has case an air lock the last time) turned it on brought it up to temp left her run for 20 min everything was fine no leaks the temp gauge stayed at just below the 1/2 mark. Tonight when for a drive and the same thing happened again. I noticed tonight that there is some coolant leaking from the cap of the coolant tank. What is going on?????????

hmmmmm. im thinking you might be burning it up through the turbo.... you might of not been cooling ur turbo and burnt it up and now your sending coolant right out through it... just a thought.

Still doing it. The top hose feels very ridgid and a lot of pressure is building up in coolant tank. Could the rad be slightly clocked?

hmmmmm. what if you are to run it with no cap? could be a clog. sounds more like a MASSIVE air bubble.

did you do a full coolant drain on it? or just top it off.

p.s. can you fix the title please.

Did a full system cleaning. When I leave the cap off is stills boils out and lots of pressure building up on the top hose. While she was running and getting hot I loosened the top hose at the t-stat housing and nothing came out but pressure. I don't think (and hope) its the head gasket, no sign of oil in coolant and vise versa.

After going through some post regarding issues like this, I am doubting my instilation. Just hoping it is not the head gasket. Did one on a 4clynder years ago, already looked it up and it looks like a beastey. One other thing I did not do was to open the coolant nipple on the back of engine if there is air in the system would draining the whole system and filling again get rid of any air lock?
p.s. 850tony thanks for the help.
Bought this 850r cheap knowing it had some issues previous owner did not take care of her, so I am trying to get her back into shape by dong most of the wok myself.

the thermostat is easy enough to pull back out i might check that kwick. i personaly have never had it where air will lock into the system that tight. i have always worked the air out by seeing my coolant tank drop.

Remove the thermostat and run it for few minutes just to make sure that its not the head gasket.

Update. I took the t-stat out ran it and no build up of pressure. Also had the tstat in backwards. (was in to much of a rush Sunday morning ) anyhow, I tested the t stat and is working ok. Have to go get a new bolt as one of the torx heads is rounding slightly and might as well change it while it is out. All going well should be back together later today and will post an update.

Thanks to everybody that replied.

Could you maybe park it on a decent incline, while it cools, maybe the air will get to the front top of radiator,,or I have seen people drill a few holes in the thermostat for the same reason...Rog

well...if you drove it without t-stat, then you probably primed your system well. Then just drain about 1L coolant and then add the t-stat. this will not leave lot of air in system since the t-stat is placed at quite a high position on engine. So, when you put it back in just start the car and add coolant until you reach the max mark. put the cap on and take it for a 10-15 minutes spin. Park it for about and 1 hr and top if required. Hope this helps.
