Fuel Filter Fix?
 

I have a 95 850 turbo with about 157K on it. I've sunk about $2K into it over the last 2 weeks and have one last thing to fix. The fuel filter was replaced and in the process the quick disconnects were destroyed. The seals in the disconnects are fine, but the part that actually hold the fuel lines onto the filter doesn't work. I have a clamp on the lines temporarily, but I'm wondering if anyone has come up with a fix for this? I'm thinking that given the mileage I doubt I'll have to change the filter again, I'm thinking about some sort of method of attaching the lines to the filter - if doesn't come apart again and it has to I'll deal with it later. Any ideas?

I have been looking into this but am sad to say, you will have to replace the line assemblies.The problem stems from the plastic construction.There are domestic mfg's with similar problems, and their kits are comprised of compression fittings. Sure they will work...........but? I side on caution. Replace the lines. I have no information of sure fix short of that. Hope this helps.[:o]

Yep, new lines. The only other way to fix it cheaply is to cut the fittings off the original lines, and connect the filter to the shorter steel lines with rubber fuel hose and screw clamps.

Why say that? my '93 has 320K miles on it and still runs and drives like a champ

The other day I went to replace the fuel filter before vacation and I broke off the quick release on the engine side of the filter. What I did to fix it was pretty easy and has had not problems in over 1000 miles since.

I got a piece of 5/32" fuel line and some Fuel Injection Hose Clamps. (the have a screw and nut not a regular hose clamp), A 5/32" to 1/4" NPT hose barb, a 1/4" to 1/4" NPT hose barb and a 1/4" NPT coupler.

I ground the ridges off the 1/4" hose barb, coupled it to the 5/32" barb and a few inches of rubber fuelline and 2 clamps.

Cut back the hard line a few inches and slip the smaller barb in. Clamp that.
Clamp the other end onto the fuel filter with 2 clamps and you are good to go.

Sounds like a good fix. You might want to take some pictures and consider making it a repair sticky for future reference.

That does sound like a good fix. I'd second the pictures! I was thinking about taking 2 metal bars (for lack of a better description) with holes in each end and a hole/slot in the middle for the fuel line. Put one bar over each end of the fuel line and get a long screws or threaded rod, then tighten the bars together using the holes on the ends. This would pull them together and keep the lines on the filter tightly - just have to double check for space.
