Fuel Pump Replacement Problem
 

Can't get one of the fuel lines off. Been tugging for hours. Any suggestions?

Guessing you can't cut off the "quick" connect and replace it?

How are you trying to get it off?
The outside sleeve pulls up some then the line can slide off.
I use a pair of 90 degree needle nose pliers to slide them off.

Got one off just sliding by hand, tried 90 degree needle nose, but didn't want to use the plastic top of the pump assembly as a lever point. Felt like I was going to break it.

Don't think it's ever been done, so it's 12 years old. Didn't get the whole drop in I was trying to save the sleeve.

One cam off with moderate effort...

The other one, not so good. Tried prying, wiggling, angle needle nose etc..

If it makes any difference it's on the line marked with a yellow piece of tape.

Sometimes you need to work it pretty hard to get it off. But make sure you do not break the line.

What happens if I break the line? I feel like It might break before the connector comes off, that was my main concern.

You will have to replace the line or make something for it to reconnect it
I have had to pull on them so hard at times the metal pipe slid out of the unit some before the line came loose.

I believe it's the pressure side line so a reconnect would be bad, I assume, I'll try harder tomorrow. BTW I see your an admin, did you start this forum? It's very helpful.

No I did not start it. I have worked my way up to Admin over the last couple of years.
If it is the pressure line then it only goes to the fuel filter. So it you have to replace it that will not be all that bad. But carefully work it up.

Hey Tech,

Just wanted to check back in. It rained for 10 days straight so I finally got back to the pump yesterday. I lifted up the rubber boot on the top of the connector with a small flat blade screwdriver and gave it a touch of wd-40, careful not to soak it since I would still need to pull the outer sleeve up, using the straw on the can etc. Worked it lightly, turned it a few times, let it sit for 5 minutes and repeated that process 4-5 times. Then it came off with slightly more than the moderate effort that the return side needed. Wasn't very confident about wd-40 on plastic at first until I convinced myself if the plastic was rated for fuel its should be okay with a light shot of wd-40.
Any thoughts?

The WD-40 is fine on the plastic.

I have a issue with the pump, got a replacemnt, bosch, 0 580 314 067, the connector is not the same, put wires in the same way they came off the volvo pump assembled but, not pumping, checked by leaving lines off at the top of the pump while in the tank, someone said the wires could be reversed and it is not turning in right direction, is that true??? I'm trying now to see if that works, but, of course the connectors are not coming off now, will check back soon

well, I guess the pump can spin in reverse, I wish the replacement pumps had the markings(bosch) to identify + and - .. now I have to wait for the credit on the 2nd replacement I got when I paniced
