Default glovebox support arms!

I have a 97 850 which needs the blower motor resistor replaced because the fan only works on speed 4. I've been trying to remove the glovebox support arms but I just can't get them off. I have already removed the torx 25 screws that hold the glovebox in but I can't get the arms to retract. I just finished opening up the inner panel on the glovebox door (the one that has the depressions for holding cups) but to no avail. I would appreciate it if someone could tell me exactly how to get the arms to release. Pictures would also be helpful. Thanks a bunch.

I don't have any pics but stick a small screw driver or pick in the slot next to the Arm and push towards the arm and pull on the arm and it will release.

Thanks very much Tech. I finally removed those pesky arms and removed my glovebox. Can I replace the resistor with just the glovebox out or do I have to remove the knee bolster too? I took a couple of pics of the area behind the glovebox and I think I identified the resistors but I'm not positve (sorry for the quality of the pics.. they're from the cellphone):

This is an overall picture of the glovebox. The blue circle indicates where I think the resistors are and the green circle is the blower motor housing.

This is a closeup of the area which was circled in blue in the previous pic. I was wondering if the 2 green boxes circled in red, are the resistors?

Thanks for all the help.

No they aren't them the resistor is a black box with one screw going into it.

It should be somewhere between the Green and Blue circle.

I bought a new resistor from my dealership but I can't find the old one through the glovebox opening. Is it possible that the resistor is behind the knee bolster and I have to remove the bolster to access it? My vehicle does not have ECC by the way.

It doesn't matter if you have ECC or MCC they are both in the same place. You should be able to see it without removing the bulster but may not be able to get it out without removing the bulster.

You might just want to remove the bulster it is only held in with 4 13mm nuts.

Phew! I finally finished the repair. The knee bolster is a pain in the as* partly because the 3 13 mm nuts are hard to access and remove. It took me about 45 minutes with a ratchet to get the darn things off. Then you have to deal with removing the bolster itself from the tight space. All in all the job took me around 4 hours. Not bad and I saved myself 450 bucks. To anyone who needs to perform the same repair, I suggest that you buy yourself a really good ratchet because it will come in handy when you have to remove those 3 nuts from the bolster. Thanks for all the guidance tech!

I think there's a problem with my A/C system. I was driving with the A/C on after I completed the resistor repair, when I noticed that there is a click and then a moaning noise and then another click and the noise is gone and then the cycle starts over again. I think my compressor keeps turning on and off. Do I need to recharge the system or do I need to replace the compressor or one of the other A/C components? I don't think that the A/C has ever been recharged so I'm going to do it regardless of whether it's related to the problem, but I would like to correct the issue. Thanks very much.

Could very well be low on freon.
Try that first and see what happens.
