Heater Motor, Resistor etc...HELP Please!!
 

Glad to see I'm not the only one trying to get 300k out of my 97' 850. Anyhow my heater blower finally seized up after only running on high speed for about a year. So I replaced the blower motor and the resistor. You'd think that woild do it, but as luck would have it not. Anyhow, now the blower runs constantly and the only way to turn it off is to pull the fuse. I'm going to recheck all the connectorsand I'm thinking that my next step is to replace the manual climate control unit. Please feel free to suggest other courses of action, I probably won't do anything for a couple of days. The only other thing that is odd is that the yellow light for air recirculation comes on when I turn the blower speed to anything other than 0. Thanks in advance for your help!!! edad

Yeah! Fixed it!!! I had reversed the two leads that go to the fan...Next time maybe I should do it the easy way and label the leads...But what's the fun in that!!!

I just bought a '96 850 Wagon GLT with 135K, looks & runs great; I have to replace the heater motor & resistor as well - my question is, i certainly know where the fan motor is, but where is resistor (do you have a photo of where it is) & does the part have long fins on it ( I have seen some on ebay for sale & not sure if that is what I need). Lastly, I have red where others have asked if climate control is manual or not & not sure what mine is

The ECC (Electronic) and the MCC (Manual) look very similar but the differences are visible on the temperature setting and the fan speed setting. The ECC has a fan speed setting that says AUT and its temperature settings are graduated numerically in degrees. The MCC has fan speeds 0 to 4 and the temperature settings are shown in graduated width red bars.

In both cases the blower resistor (MCC) or the power stage (ECC) is inset into the main air duct next to the blower motor. It is more or less halfway between the blower and the little shelf that has the relay(s).

thank you for your reply & description; mine must be ECC, it is a GLT & it definitely has numbers for the temp setting
