i have a coolant leak on my '95 850.
it leaks into the drivers and a little into the passengers side.

oil leaking from the top of the engine. valve seals maybe?
brakes squeak from 30-5
odometer stopped working today lol
and other things i cant think of right now.

i am willing to drive to get it fixed or somewhere where i can learn to work on it. i need/want to learn how to do it myself.

First of all, everything you said is fixable. Can you elaborate on the comment, "it leaks into the drivers and a little into the passengers side." Is this leak inside the cabin or outside the cabin?

heater core

gabbydubbs34 04-28-2010 10:01 AM

yes it is inside the cabin collecting on the floor mats. it is most likely the heater core but i have no idea how to get to the heater core so i can replace it.

oil leaks from the top of the engine might be a faulty gasket inside the engine fill cap. volvo recommends to replace these at every oil change. heater core location can be found in a haynes or chilton manual. as for the break squeal take the wheel off and clean the rotors with brake clean and a rag. check wear with dial caliper or tread depth gauge and replace as necessary. brakes can squeal from oil being splashed on them or a built in warning that the brakes are almost gone. my odometer stopped working as well. i fixed this by buying a odometer gear from ipdusa.com which came with written instructions and dvd. it stops working because one of the gear teeth in the odometer gear broke off inside the gauge cluster. the gear from ipd is made from a harder plastic and costs the same as a new one from the dealer

Good advice above...

Replacing the heater core is not tough. You need to determine if its coming from the lines or the core itself. You can see this by looking from the drivers side up by the gas pedal. With the engine cold (just not blazing hot) feel the lines coming in for fluid. If they are dry then its most likely the core, which drops out after taking just a couple screws out from both sides and releasing the lines by the screw between where they go into the core. Easy Peasy.

I am unclear on your problem. Did the new gear tooth break off?

gabbydubbs34 05-01-2010 09:31 AM

no i have not gotten my replacement parts yet.

You might want to try my website http://www.SpeedometerGears.com for replacement gears and VDO speedometer repair.

BTW I am a newbie and I did not see a prohibition in the FAQ for posting commercial links. If I am in error, sorry!
