An option to consider:
Timing Parts
If you are going to do the belt, I would buy a kit and get all components replaced. If you can successfully compress the hydraulic tensioner (the small cylinder that puts out an enormous pressure), it may not need replacing at the moment, but if it were my 850, I would do it anyway and keep the original, unless it's leaking oil.
I would also do the water pump. Volvo genuine water pump was known to be bullet-proof, until recently. On someone's 850, the water pump has seized and he needed a new (rebuilt/junkyard) head. I would do the water pump at every other belt change (I used German HEPU, which I was happy with).
I hope this helps.

it said it would fit the sedan, but the wagon is not on the list. but it is the same engine, so i believe it is the right belt.

To get the right belt you usually need to have the engine number. They have different length belts depending on what engine you have.
This example is from a 95 turbo.
- Number of Teeth: 143
- Timing Marks: No
- Engine Number: 131154 And Before
- Number of Teeth: 148
- Timing Marks: No
- Engine Number: 131155 And After
