How do you remove the exterior side molding?

Can it be painted? I see that it can be replaced, but if you replace it, what do you do about the gray on the bumpers? Can that be replaced too.

I don't know about removing it, but there are various "back to black" items you can buy that apply with a cloth and return bumpers and other pieces to black. I got this mothers stuff at checkers, it was cheap and didn't last, but search the forum, someone had a product they thought was great, I just can't remember what it was called.

If you do want to remove the Moldings there is a rubber plug in the back door jam. Remove the plug and there is a Torxes screw in there. remove it and slide the molding I think it is towards the back of the door and pull out.

RE: How do you remove the exterior side molding?

I know how to remove the door moldings.
ButI do NOT know how to remove the small molding on the front fender forward of the front door.
I have a 1996 850.

For the door molding:
remove rubber plug from door edge.
Remove the torx screw.
Slide the molding FORWARD.
Warning -- DO NOT let the torx screw fall inside the door cavity.
Place a small magnet below the screw, when unsrewing,to cath it as it falls.

Question: DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW TO REMOVE the FENDER Molding forward of the front door (model 850)?

On and side note you can use some products to make your bumpers black and or grey again.

-Forever Black
-Kiwi leather shoe dye (Yes this has been used and with good results.)

Also they can be painted to match your color of your car and or whatever color you want. I would match them to your cars color.

If you match your car color, you can make your 850 look like an S70. I prefer the grey color myself. I have read that Forever Black works great, but I have personally not tried it and I want mine to be grey not black. When I bought the white one, the dealer I bought it from game me a bottle of stuff that works great. In my case it's called Gatoraide, but that was just the bottle he put it in. It does not last all that long, but looks good for about a month.

OK,

I have Definitive Answers for you since I just finished this project 3 weeks ago.

1: Removing the small piece on fender just slide it back once you have removed the door moulding.

2: You can paint the trim with Duplicolor Trim Paint. I have done this on my car and it has even taken a few good scrapes from people in parking lots with no adverse effects.

YOU MUST CLEAN THE TRIM EXTREMELY WELL BEFORE PAINTING!
I ran mine through the dishwasher (when the wife wasn't home):)
Then wife it down with prep-sol or prep-all.
Then paint it with 3 or 4 light coats of the Trim Paint.

The strips on the bumpers can be painted on the car.
Clean it very well.
Thenraise the hood and open trunk or hatch.
Mask off the body real well. (figure it should take twice as long to mask as it does to paint)
You can buy a roll of 12" Masking paper and some tape at Lowes or the Depot (blue clean release tape works best)

Oh BTW do NOT do this on a windy day!

Hi,

I remember someone's reporting that a heat gun worked great on his 850 (and I also remember seeing some pics as well) to rejuvenate the black part of the bumpers. But the other stuff that other members suggested would work just as well.

As to the front fender's tiny moulding, my '94 T5 did not have any "sliding" part to it. It was held in place by two plastic rivets, directly onto the fender's holes. If you can get to them from the other side (you probably would have to remove the wheel-well lining) and pinch the "wings" of the rivets with a pair of pliers, you canpush them off the fender. Or, since the rivets are cheap at the dealer, you can "carefully force it" to come off. But I would try to get to the other side method to avoid scratching the fender.

I hope this helps.

I just removed the one off the parts car last night.
I used 90 degrees long needle nose pliers to push the clips closed and it fell right off.

Hey now,

I did mine, bumpers and trim, last weekend and being my first timeI missed a couple of small spots [:'(]but will get them when I do the mud guards :).

From start to finish. As is usual, got a couple of fuzzy ones but it's a good "visual how to" that's recent.

Sorry, as it was starting to get cloudy so the lighting looks like it's getting dark but you can see a very big difference.

Yes, I'll get the missing spots and shoot the guards later this week [sm=smiley14.gif].

I'll post 'all around shots' of The Anvil when it all done, washed and sunny.
