Default How to Replace Hood Hinge?

95 850- After my deer hit and a nice junkyard hood, the Right side of the windshield still sticks up, and seems kind of soft. Like I can push it down an little bit. Left side is solid.

I'm thinking maybe the impact has tweaked the spring loaded hinge mechanism. I see several hinges at my local JY, (theres a V70 with no hood or fenders, hinges are hanging right out there. An 850 also but with fenders) how do you remove the hinge? Looks like lower bolt is right behind the plate. I don't want a spring shooting off in my face! Thanks- Dave

You shouldn't have to worry about the hinges spring as you'll take the whole hinge off and put them on in the "OPEN" position. Least amount of energy in the spring and no where for it to go.

This is what I came across:

I am one of the few, the proud, the idiots that took off the safety latch and lost their hood.

I was able to replace mine without pulling the fenders off completely but I did have to take all the top bolts out including up in the marker light area and the one in the door jam.
Release the spring before you take the hinge off from the door jam.
Get a razor and slice the sealant or whatever it is where the hinge meets the frame.
Get a wrench down to the bolts by pulling the fender away from the car just enough to get to them.
Get the bolts out, pull the hinge out.
Put the new hinge in and bolt it down.
Pull the spring back into place(good luck, this was hard)
bolt the fender back on.

One thing you might want to do, which would probably make this an absolute cake job is pull the doors off. The doors come off in a matter of seconds.

Default hood

kiss- I saw both of those links this morning and they both (especially the second one) were incoherent. Plain English please! first one didnt seem to really go anywhere.

I guess if I flipped the hood clip thing (to open the hood to vertical) the spring would have the least tension on it. My next JY visit I'll monkey around with it. love the U pull it!

Does what I describe sound like a messed up hinge? I've got it adjusted down at the right rear as far as it will go and it still sticks up about a quarter of an inch. Only thing I can figure is it bent- unless the impact simply loosened the hinge a bit, raised it. D

Sooo, that is what that little catch is suppose to control
Hopefully you were lucky and it didn't take your windshield too.

You need to go left when the deer goes right.
