Worth it???
'95 850 wagon....250k..still in good shape,runs great..now the issue..
Runs great at speed no apparent issues. once it warms up and you stop at a light and idle it begins to spout black (oily???) smoke. If you put it in neutral and advance the throttle to 1200 RPM's it doesn't smoke ( or no where nearly as bad). The last time I drove it it smoked a good deal more and even during regular driving. I was told this relates to a "bad" seal in the turbo whichs leaks improper amounts of oil.
My question is should I fix it...roughly how much to fix......can a person of very good mechanical aptitude perform this repair......or just call it and get rid of it...........what's it realistically worth????
Thanks for any input
Brad

RE: Worth it???
If it is just theturbo, you could always swap it.
Buy one on this site or turbobricks for like $100-$250 shipped.
Click hereto check out what turbomodel you need.

RE: Worth it???
Hey guys I'm not disagreeing....it my not be turbo related at all...I've never had a turbo before so it's all new to me. How would I go about resolving the issue if it's not turbo related..I assume that that is an easier fix than replacing the turbo??? Thanks again for the input.
BTW this turbo was resealed by a third party but the shop that reinstalled the turbo relly did a horrible job...loose or unattached hoses etc so I have absolutely no confidence in the repair. I had to reattached most of the hoses properly myself...this was probably 1200 miles ago

Here is a good walk-through for the PCV: http://www.lakesidedp.com/uploadpics/pcv/
Either way, both jobs require you to remove a manifold.
Edit: since the turbo was messed with by a third party and appears to have been a "crappy" job, that could have effected the turbo.
you never really know unless you check.
