Very easy (with the help of my fiancee's brother), very simple, lots of fun. Good smoke show.
But anywho, the car runs much smoother. The idle is not rough anymore and the acceleration is even smoother. I wasn't expecting a big change due to my car not having a turbo, but the difference is huge. |

I believe it is effective to clean out inside the vacuum lines, etc... I only remember there is one person who might have used it incorrectly and has had some problem. JPN |

I was considering it when I cleaned out the oil sump to replace the O-rings, but then I read some where that It might clean out to much and leave bits of carbon/dirt now floating around lose in the engine?
But after hearing this topic sounds like I should have tried it! |

We've been discussing seafoam over on Matthewsvolvosite a few times lately. There was someone over there who had apparently "hydrolocked" the engine which bent a valve and in punched it through a piston... something like that, and the end results was catastrophic engine failure. It was the rare exception to the much positive rule of seafoam being found useful by the many who use it. Three ways to use it of course... in the gas tank, in the crankcase, and drafted through a vaccuum line (which is how that hydrolocking issue occurred). What's interesting to me (and I'm considering using it soon) is with the "in the crankcase" method, how long do you leave it in there before changing the oil? Much debate on this.. some say change after 20 minutes, some say run it a 100 or 200 miles, and some including the instructions on the can say just leave it in until the next oil change. I did some googling on the topic not so long ago and was reading on other non-volvo forums about this. No one has the exact answer. Interesting stuff though.

not discounting seafoam because it's good stuff, but for what it's worth the throttle body is easy to take off on the 850. it's worth removing and manually cleaning it

I was told to not run it in the crankcase and no, it will not solve PCV issues.
I did the vacuum line one, and i can't say I felt a huge difference. IT felt slightly more responsive after I used it, but it wasn't a drastic difference. |
