The infamous 850 not starting thread
Well it happened to me finally.
Went to start it a few days ago and it wouldn't start. Came back an hour later, (mind you I am aware of the hold the gas down and crank till it starts and all that) and it didnt start. 10 minutes later and it decides to finally start. Since then no problems, same trusty old start. My check engine light has been on and last time I checked it it read misfires on a few cylynders and the ignition timing was off. Well now it will not start at all. I just did the cap distro plugs and wires about 3 months ago myself. I don't think its a fuel thing, as I unscrewed the blue valve on the fuel rail and gas came gushing out when I pushed on it. Guessing I should check the wires and plugs next. Anyway, just curious if anyone has any tips or thoughts or confirmations of my thoughts before I go ripping into all the wiring and plugs and such. Thanks for your thoughts! |
After research...
I think it is either the ignition coil or the CPS. Battery is dead so I am waiting for a charge to test the coil. Should produce spark on the NEG battery terminal correct? Anyway to test the CPS? |
You should see if you are getting spark first.
|
No spark...BUT if the CPS is out it wouldn't produce a spark either, correct?
Is an OHM meter the only way to test a CPS? |

Is an OHM meter the only way to test a CPS? There should be other ways to test the sensor, but I do not know what type of sensor it is so I can't help. |
New coil, no spark.
CPS must be the culprit. Gr. |
So I replaced the Cam sensor and it now starts. HOWEVER there is a lot more lag when you step on the gas then before. Like the RPM's almost go down before they go up. And if you rev high and then let off it just about dies before resuming idle.
Any ideas? Could it be a vacuum thing? I did take the air filter box out to replace the sensor. |
