Loud sneeze/squeak when flooring the gas 96 volvo 850 Turbo

Like the title says, when I floor it my rpms get to about 5k and it does the gear change from 1st to 2nd. When it changes gears it makes this rather alarming squeak and the car jolts a tiny bit. It does this maybe 80% of the time, it almost feels like after the car does it once it doesn't happen again as often. When going normal speed its fine, and the squeak never happens in any other gears. Almost sounds like it's coming from the right hand side of the front end of the car. My car is an A/T.

I first noticed the noise when someone was test driving it when I had it for sale, they said it sounded like the transmission but they didn't know much about cars. I've decided I don't want to sell the car so problems like these worry me as I need this to be my long term vehicle.

Any ideas what this may be? How to fix it? What it may lead to?

Thanks!

If anyone is interested I can make a video of it happening tomorrow.

New tires maybe? lol

These cars can squeak wheels when you get on it!

From what I've researched its some sort of tension pully? It's because the engine can't reduce the RPM's fast enough for it to switch gears so it makes the noise.

I could be wrong.

Hi there,

What he said...at 5000 rpm you are really flooring it and if the sound is coming right as the gears change, it sound to me like you are just burning rubber, litteraly! especially if the sound comes from only one side of the car, this is due to the differential, think of it like when you get stuck in the mud, one wheel has traction and the other spins for lack of traction, except this happens for a split second. This would not happen for higher gears since the gear ratios are higher and the car/engine would need to produce a lot of torque to spin the wheels at a higher gear.

Do you feel a "Jerk" when the gear changes?
