Need help with new 850 turbo wagon AWD

Hey everyone, back with another question. Just purchased my "new" 1997 Volvo 850 Turbo Wagon All Wheel Drive with 336'000kms . Here's the list of problems I' ve seen so far.
1. Very weird noise comming from front wheel (passenger side) as well as bad vibe!. I'm almost sure it's wheel bearing but open to other suggestions. And no I'm sure it's not the brakes.
2. The following lights are illuminated, ABS, engine and service lights as well as some sort of temp light.
3. The AWD how can you test if it works cause when I picked it up today it was raining, the front tires broke loose when I florred it. Should all the AWD kick in????

As well it there anything I need to know about this particular model?

Tks in advance for you responses, where would we be without forums?

RE: Need help with new 850 turbo wagon AWD

Hi and welcome to the forum.

The humming noise and bad vibe could be a wheel bearing, but it sounds more to me like it might be a bad tire. To check, swap the front and rear tires and see if the noise goes away or moves to the rear.

Lights: The service light comes on every 5000-7500 miles (can't remember which right now) as a reminder to tell you it is time for regular service (oil change, etc). On earlier models you can reset the light yourself, but on 97's I believe you need to go to the dealer to get it reset. The engine light is most likely your check engine light. When the light comes on there are one or more trouble codes stored in the car's computer stating what is wrong that caused the light to come on. If you do not have an OBDII code reader (can be purchased at just about any auto parts store for about $100) you will again need to go to the dealer to get the codes read and the light turned off. ABS light comes on to tell you there is a problem with the car's ABS system. You will have normal baking but limited or no ABS. Problem is most likely a bad ABS control unit. Not sure about the temp light you are speaking of? Are you sure it is not the TRACS light? This light also usually comes on when the ABS light goes on.

Good luck with the car and keep us pposted on how it goes.
