need help with radio problem

Hi,
I would appreciate your advice/opinion on the following FM radio problem with my Volvo 850 T5, 96.
FM reception goes on and off randomly on intervals from 20 min to few days.
It started about 6 months ago and getting worse.
AM reception is OK all the time. If FM goes down, the noise of the amplifier is present.
First I thought it is FM antenna connection, so cleaned it several times,
even replaced the antenna cable connector on a new one. No difference.
Hot dry weather seems remove the problem, but after the rain or cold weather it starts again.
Also light knocking on the radio sometimes helps.
Now I believe it is something like capacitor or transistor next to FM antenna input.
AM and CD work nicely all the time.
Thanks,
-Victor

The dealership will offer you a new SC-816 radio in exchange for your old radio and $330.

Here is a list of authorized OEM radio servicers...

RE: need help with radio problem

As Robert here knows, I have had this exact same problem, alas with no solution yet (also a '96, though a Turbo Wagon). Went through most of the same steps and slaps, except have not replaced antennae connection though I suspected that was the problem. Now, not so sure.

Now I believe it is something like capacitor or transistor next to FM antenna input.
Seems like there should be an intermittent step before replacement since the problem is so sporadic. Please let me know if you come up with a solution. Good luck....

Probably the radio itself; these radios don't have a good longevity reputation (according to my local dealer).

I recently had to replace mine; got one from a junk yard for $40. Or you can go aftermkt.
