Default Newbie question about parts compatibility

Hello!

I'm from Brazil, and I found a very nice Volvo 850 SW 2.3l Turbo for sale for a good price. I'm itching to buy it, but I need first to ask something.

The parts for Volvo 850 with different cubic capacities (2.0l, 2.3l and 2.5l) compatible between different engines? I mean, can I fit, for example, an oil pump for a 2.0l 850 in a 2.3l Turbo engine? What about spark plugs, or spark plug cables?

Volvo's aren't so popular in Brazil, and it isn't so easy to find parts for them. It's not impossible, however they aren't as common as, for example, Ford Focus or Honda Civic parts. My main concern buying one is the cross compatibility between parts.

How can I check the compatibility between parts? How can I know if a starter engine, for example, for a 850 2.0l will fit and work in a 2.3l Turbo?

Thanks!

Oil pumps almost ever go out. I doubt that spark plugs would swap and why would anyone ever do that, swap used plugs into a car they plan to drive (new plugs here can be purchased for $1.85 each).

The best way to figure this stuff out is to find a parts website that sells parts for the various motor specs and see what part numbers they have for said items. I'm pretty sure a 2.0 motor will not last long if bolted into a 2.3t situation (15G and all).

Hello, thanks for replying!

I don't know if I was clear, sorry, english is not my primary language

The point is: When browsing for parts in Brazilian websites, I found different prices for the same parts, for different engines. For example, the (new) spark plugs for the 2.0l engine had a different price than for the 2.3l and the 2.5l engines. The plugs for the 850 T-5R cost almost three times more.

What are good websites to check for parts compatibility? I know iPDUsa, but can you suggest some more?

Check out www.rockauto.com
they have a great selection of parts and you can cross reference the parts number pretty easily.
