OEM Thermostat temp? 87, 90, 92? 95 850 N/A
 

OK so my temp gauge is sitting about half a needle to a needle width or so above 3 oclock, I replaced it with a 92C about 6 months ago but it's bothering me,hopefully I haven't damaged the car. Anyway I'm trying to find out what the OEM one is for a 95 850 N/A. FCP says the 92C is stock for the N/A while I see reports on here that 87C is, and IPD only sells the 90C.

Help!! Which one to choose? The 92C is obviously just a bit hot cause my needle sits a little high. It was dead center before.

OK I posted on MVS as well, to bring some closure to this thread and for those who will search in the future the "correct" thermostat for a non-turbo N/A is 90C accordingto Volvo and "VADIS", not totally sure what that is but I believe its the same thing the dealer uses to look up info.

VADIS (Volvo aftersales Diagnostics and Information System).
It is a pretty cool little program that acts as a repair manual, it can scan for codes and reset them.
Has all the part numbers you need, and helpfull hints, but somethimes it runs short on features.
You can get it of ebay for a few bucks on a Euro-site.

Wow that is pretty neat, I'll have to look into that program! How does it scan for codes, does it hook into your laptop with an OBDII and USB connector?

Yes...I think if you are REALLY nice to the people at the dealer...they will sell you the cable. or you can buy it some where else. I have not yet purchased the cable, but I would like to have it.

I might have to find another dealer, I think I've upset my local one cause I keep driving my 13 year old 850 to buy parts instead of a new car!!! :)

HAHAHAHA...I know what you mean. Funny thing is the dealer my parents got my 91 745T is no longer selling volvos. My car out lasted their Sales:D. And she refuses to quit.

You will have to buy a setup called a VCT2000 to use vadis to read codes. It is like 3K for the connection.
Also it only reads codes on 99 and up cars. It is useless on 98 and older cars.

I would go with the 90 one for the thermostat.

OK to wrap this up I replaced all the hoses besides the lower radiator hose (that was done 2 months ago when it blew), the thermostat, and the ECT sensor.

The hoses I had were cold and didn't like to go on, I simply but them in hot water to warm them up, that helped a lot. Also I reused most of the clamps. I couldn't get the clamps onto the new house that connects the theromostat housing to the resovoir (small hose) so I used cheapies I had laying around. One broke but fortunately is tight, I figure I won't ever have to replace the hose again so oh well. The ECT sensor was a BITCH to get out, I had to go buy a 19 mm spanner from autozone, I still don't think I got it tight enough because the edge of the wrench rubs against the intake manifold but so far no leaks so I guess I did good. No codes or anything, temp came up nicely and looks to sit a bit lower, as I believe I had a 92C in there before. Oh I also bought the new theromostat housing bolts from the dealer, $0.81 for both out the door, WORTH EVERY PENNY, they are made quite a bit stronger made out of a blackish metal. I also put antiseize on them.

Took me about 3 hours, no I'm no mechanic... :D

Haha, If you are going to replace thermostat and do not have new bolts, watch out. Go ahead and get the new bolts. Period.
