1996 850 turbo

I have done a search on the topic and it appears that this could very well be the result of a vacuum leak. And, I have learned how to test for said leak.

Anyway, what I am wondering is if there is a diagram available of all the vacuum lines so that I can take a systematic approach to checking them?

Can any one send me a pic?

Why not check the diagram under your hood?

I will take a look.

check your intake/ intercooler hoses.
test the boost/TCV lines.

Check the intake for leaks at the fresh air tube where it attaches to the turbo. There is a couple of vaccum lines there and even seen the tube itself leak. Should also take a look at the vaccum nipple on the passenger side of intake manifold, behind the p/s pump. This is a common leak.

I just fixed the same code - it turned out to be a vacuum hose that had become disconnected. I was painstakingly checking each hose for a microscopic leak and then stumbled on a hose that was disconnected entirely. "Hmmm... I think I found it"

Even with the diagrams, it just took some time and a flashlight to follow all of the hoses under the hood and find the problem.

I wouldnt even mess with it. Go buy new tubing and just replace it all. With the year you are working with...its time. I had the same code and just replaced them all, reset the ECU and I was good to go.

I will definitely check the hose that runs over by the power steering pump. I will follow all the hoses as suggested, and will look into those specifics mentioned. I think it is a good idea to try and replace the hosing. Hopefully I will stumble across something obvious.

I noticed when I took out the air filter box i seen what I think is referred to as the "vacuum tree." Is that the same thing as the TCV lines? It has the color coded lines and I think they run to the turbo.

Three vacuum lines into a D size battey looking thing in a rubber mount with two holes.....Yes, Turbo Control Valve.

For my T5-R, the P0172b code was the CBV or IC hoses (changed at the same time) and the code never came back !! :o

What is a CBV or IC?

IC=Idle Control???

CBV is compressor bypass valve.
On the turbo.

Where is that and what does it look like?

It protects the turbo when you let off the throttle by recirculating the extra charged air back into the intake.

It is the on the compressor hosuing of the turbo. Held on by three bolts (on the right in the photo):

Oh... IC is intercooler. IC hoese would be intercooler hoses.

It can be the vacuum elbow, just on the side of the steering pump, plugged on the intake manifold. This line come from the air intake tube.

So, I finally realized that it was the hose over there by the power steering pump. Is there any write up on that job? It seem if I move the upper rad house I could get my hand in there. But where does the other end run? Can someone tell what I need to do to fix this and a part recommendation. Thanks, Chris

I was thinking I might just buy all three because it would be under $10. The elbow have different size openings: small/small, large/small, and large/large.
