Parting ways with my 95 850 GLT

My car is leaking oil in the filler port. I was told it is the pvc system needs to be replaced. I don't want to o through the repair so i'm parting ways with it. I know some of you guys need parts. so if your in the NYC areaand you need some stuff let me know. I am not selling parts, take the whole car and go. Monday, its going to Junk yard.

You're selling a car over a couple hour PCV job? That makes sense.

I gotta agree with Gilber here. Here's the thing: you can spend a hundred bucks for the PCV system and take a couple hours to install it, and you'll be able to sell it as a perfectly good running car. Seriously, the PCV job isn't all that bad.

yeah i agree its almost silly to throw away a car over a couple hundred dollar fix

Man, I know your pain. I'll call you in the am to see if I can have it picked up.

I know the pvc is an easy job that is not costly. This was my work car but I out grew it. I don't need 2 cars any more. Thanks for you concerns though.

Who told you that you needed the PCV replaced? Not to say that isn't the problem but there is the possibility that it is just the seal on the cap. They get old, dried, hard and do not seal anymore. Its actually recommended to replace that cap seal every time you change your oil. I have a new PCV system on my 850 and it still leaked oil from the cap. I have a second engine so I replaced the cap from that one thinking the seal might be better. Same problem. Then I made the trek to the dealer and bought a new seal. Fixed. Interesting thing when I removed the old seal, it just broke off it was very hard.

Even if you do decide you want to let it go, dont junk it. Post it for sale on the forum(s) and Craigslist...it WILL get picked up.

From what I have heard, junk yards give about $250 to $350 for cars that have a little body damage and little or no mechanical problems. Trade-in for the car is between $525 and $1,100. If I was able to get it I would. Just not able to travel right now.

Hey there,
I had a similar problem last year in my 95 850. Oil was spewing out the filler cap, and other places. Turned out it was an easy fix - the flame trap was clogged. Cleaning it out well with carb cleaner and putting it all back together completely fixed it!
