Passing wires through the firewall
 

All,

My son brought home some foglights that he wants me to help him install on the 95 850 Turbo *sigh*

Anyway, I'm no stranger to doing this type of thing, but before I tackle it, are there any tips on a good place to pass the wires through the firewall? I'm looking for something convenient (read this as fairly easy) I checked the search, but nothing came up, so...........

Any advice or tips are greatly appreciated

My 96 854 T5 has foglights in the front spoiler, so the wiring in your car is probably already there. I don't understand why you want to wire throught the firewall?

I didn't see any pre-wiring when I looked. Could be it is only pre-wired on the T-5 and not the regular Turbo model....

Usually they are all prewired.
The wires are usually stored above the bumper and Plugged into a Dummy Cap that looks like a PLUG.

First, there is a conduit through the firewall -look just below the master cylinder, and You should see a plastic "hose" like those used the wrap the insulation. It should have a cap on it. It is empty inside, and goes through the firewall, comes out somewhere next to gas pedal.

Secod, tech is right, but in my case, the wire was next to the battery, and it was inserted into a dummy plug -not connected to anything.

This is how I did my fogs: I wanted to retain the OEM "look", so I bought a fog light switch and it's harness from the dealer (you can try Eeuroparts.com -call them).
If you remove the driver side knee bolster(plastic) and look up (you have to lie down ) you will see a yellow connector that is inserted into yellow "Dummy" connector. the whole thing is held on the bracket -get it off the bracket, and you can remove yellow "end" -then you insert the 2nd end of the fog lights harness into this yellow connector. Now your fog loght switch should illuminate w/ the rest of the dash.

Next part is tricky: now you have to find the pin on the fog lights harness that is switching the lights On/Off. You will connect that to the relay switch. Next you have to find a pin on the Yellow connector which has 12V when low beams are ON. That will go to the relay coil.

*** I do not remember exactly how I did it, I remember that they relay would switch a (-) /negative terminal On/off.

There is probably more than one way to do it. If you use the Yellow connector, it has a wire that goes next (I think just in front) to the battery and inserts into a dummy plug. Using OEM switch will allow good integration into the dash, switch illuminates and dims w/ the dash.

You don't have to use Volvo relay , any Bosch type relay would do.

Be careful that you do not pull any of the wires above that yellow connector under the dash

Thanks for the tip, I used the conduit you suggested. Lights are in and working fine.
