Pcv return line

http://i753.photobucket.com/albums/x...k/040b52b9.jpg is this the correct return line to the turbo from the pcv? Fcpgroton says it's the correct line but my mechanic says it's too short at the front and it has a bend near the turbo side where it shouldn't. The part number I got is uro9471644. So is the part wrong? Is my mech missing another part?

Have you done a cross reference yet? Always do that first. If that's an aftermarket part, just find a pic of OEM or a diagram to compare it to, it will be your fastest answer.

Looks fine to me.

I'm glad I'm my own mechanic, it seems like some of the mechanics really have no idea what they're talking about.

"Don't run a MBC, you'll blow up your car!"

Get out of town! :D

This is where being your own mechanic is nice, I simply ask myself,

"Do you think it's a good idea to run a 19T, EBC, NA cams, and a manual transmission on my car?"

And then I say "Sure, why the hell not? Sounds like fun!"

:D :D :D

Haha thanks gil. I'll show this to my mech tomorrow morning. I totally want to do all my own work I just don't have a climate controlled garage to work in and of course it needed to get done with spring right around the corner lol.

gilber33 Mar 4, 2010 05:32 PM

Understandable. I know mechanics have the best intentions when they try to give you advice, but remember, they're just as much a salesman as they are a mechanic, and usually they only know as much as the computer diagrams do (except for Tech, he knows everything).

For example, I called the Volvo dealership today and spoke to someone in Services, I told him I'm installing fog lights on an 850 Turbo and I'm looking for the plugs and if he know where they would be hiding.....the guy didn't have A CLUE what I was talking about, it's almost sad. I could probably go in there and be twice as knowledgeable as half the guys in there.

TheTrainwreck Mar 4, 2010 05:44 PM

Lol for sure. I thought I was making out bc my mech lets me order my own parts. Idk either he's missing something or fcp sent the wrong thing, which is possible but doubtful as I already confirmed the part number. Did you ever think about working at a dealership? It's like your calling lol.

gilber33 Mar 4, 2010 05:55 PM

Lol. I've thought about looking into working part time at the Volvo/Jaguar dealership in Milwaukee, but with school, and my campus job that I just got a promotion at, I don't really feel the need to anymore. I wish I could, just so when people that call with questions similar to mine, they don't get some dumbass that didn't even know 850s had fog lights. Moron.

telling you right now i agree with your mechanic

having recently (2 days ago) did my PCV system, i encountered the same problem the thick tube is honestly like an 1"-1 1/2" too small and again he IS correct on the nipple fitting, that thing has to be FORCED on soo hard then u have to clamp it right away mien took me almost 20 minues just to FORCE the thicker tube to seal fine on my PTC, as for the vacuum line, take it OUT of the rubber encloser ( thats hwo the one before i did my change was) only because again the vacuum line is about 2" too small, i couldnt get it to stay on the intake manifold either the vacuum line could hold the fitting or the vacuum line would come out and the fitting would stay on the intake, it was never both, so i took it out of the rubber enclosure and i had about 1 1/2" more then i needed (((look closely, make sure u attach the 90 degree elbow on the fatter cable to the TRAP then take the 45( i dont know why they put a 45 on it) and RAM i mean RAM and pull hard to get it onto the PCV thats y u should secure the 90 degree piece to the trap with clamps)))

honestly these are the things i encoutered 2 days ago, take my advice or dont but thats how i solved for it actually legit being to short....

I agree thos hoses need to be a little longer. They are a real bitch to put back on and very little room to work. I had one heck of a time getting mine to stay on too.

TheTrainwreck Mar 5, 2010 09:19 PM

Got my car back today. My mech had to cut the breather tube and join it with a hose to make it fit but it worked. Thanks to all those who helped out. And a word to the wise, if your car hasn't had the pcv replaced yet, just do it and saveyourself the headache. Oh and thanks fcp for molding your breather tube way wrong lol.

s_moneh Mar 5, 2010 09:32 PM

glad everything went ok, was my advice taken in the removale of the smaller vacuum line from the bigger lines foaming insulation to get that atleast longer?

TheTrainwreck Mar 6, 2010 01:48 AM

Yea I had them take the two hoses apart lol. I went by the shop while it was all apart and you can tell the breather hose was molded wrong.
