Possible turbo problem.....
Ok my 96 850 is about 300 miles away from having 200K on it's clock. Today while driving I hit the gas to pass someone and the turbo gauge maybe moved into the boost 1/4 of the way. Normally if I hit the gas it will almost peg the boost gauge in the cluster. Also I can't remember where the vac normally sat but it's sitting about 1/2 in vaccum when at idle or off the gas.
Is my turbo going, could it be a boost leak? I don't know how many miles these turbos get before they need a rebuild. I just got the car close to 2 months ago. Currently I could get another turbo if needed, but if it sounds like a boost leak I'll look into that first. Do they make a pressure kit to check for boost leaks like they do other vehicles? |
RE: Possible turbo problem.....
I'd check all the vacuum lines and connections first. I know the plastic nipples get fragile and tend to break off.

RE: Possible turbo problem.....
Do a good visual inspection on all hoses attached to the turbocharger, look for rupture, holes or loose clamps.
Tech, could this be a problem with waste gate stuck open? JPN |
RE: Possible turbo problem.....
Like stated above, check all your vaccume lines. Also, check the boost gauge line for any damages. Every once in a while mine would pop off. It would take 30 seconds to fix.

RE: Possible turbo problem.....
I looked at the boost gauge line first as I thought it could of been that since it's loops around most of the car but it's all in tact. I will be out looking for cracks in lines in a few minutes I'll keep everyone posted if I find anything.
The wastegate on these turbos is there a way to close them if it is stuck open? |
RE: Possible turbo problem.....
Well the problem isn't there now.....
|
RE: Possible turbo problem.....
The waste gate opens from pressure.
Make sure that under boost the intercooler or throttle body hose isn't collapsing. The hoses get soft then collapse under boost. |
